Waseda Summer Session 2016

Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, started a four-week summer session in 2014 with 76 students. In 2015, this number rose to 131, from 76 universities in 18 different countries and regions around the world.

In 2016, from 27 June to 21 July 21, Waseda University will offer a 4-week summer session for undergraduates, open to international students as well as students from Waseda.

Participants can take part in 2 courses out of 13 in such areas as art, business, culture, economics, history, literature, politics, and sociology in the context of Japan and Asia pacific. The 2 courses will be worth 4 credits.

The classes are taught in English by experienced faculty members from Waseda and visiting professors from our partner institutions. Japanese language classes can be taken as optional courses.

We will also organize extracurricular activities such as field trips, site visits, and cultural events to all our students to experience Tokyo and Japan.

Application has been made to the Japanese government scholarship (JASSO) fund for the program. Information will be provided as soon as it is available. As we will update the scholarship information accordingly, please check the Waseda University Summer Session website for updates.

Nominated students are required to meet all conditions below.

  • Non-Japanese nationality (Dual nationality of Japanese is not acceptable
  • Do not receive other scholarship above JPY 80,000 (Approx. USD 670)
  • GPA above 2.5 on 4.0 scale
  • May warrant consideration for financial assistance
  • Degree seeking undergraduate students when participating the session and will graduate from their home institution after returning their school.
  • Credit earned by Waseda Summer Session must be transferred to their home institution and a credit transferred certificate must be submitted to us from the home institution. If not, submit the designated document which should be signed by an authorized person at their institution.
  • Must attend scholarship orientation during the program.
  • All reports required by JASSO must be submitted by the student.
